/ / Everything you should to know about surrogacy in Ukraine

Ukraine is one of the few countries in the world where surrogacy is supported and regulated by law. A surrogate mother – also called a gestational carrier or gestational surrogate – is a woman who carries a baby for an individual (the Intended Parents) who is unable to have a baby on their own. The surrogate mother does not share genetics with the baby and may not use her eggs for donation. We provide surrogacy for Ukrainian and foreign couples who are legally married and have only certain health issues.

Indications for surrogacy in Ukraine include:

  • absence of uterus (congenital or acquired);
  • deformation of the cavity or cervix in congenital malformations or due to surgical interventions, and benign tumors in which it is impossible to carry a pregnancy;
  • structural-morphological or anatomical changes of the endometrium leading to a loss of receptivity (the ability for the embryo to implant in the uterine lining in a normal manner), adhesions of the uterine cavity, which are not treatable (necessary to be diagnosed with hysteroscopy or ultrasound or histological conclusion of endometrial biopsy)
  • severe somatic diseases (e.g. heart disease, severe diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, etc) in which the carrying of pregnancy threatens the further health or life of the recipient, but which do not affect the health of the future child;
  • taking certain medications which are impossible to stop during pregnancy which can lead to high risks of fetal congenital malformations
  • unsuccessful repeated attempts at IVF (4 or more times) with a repeated transfer of high-quality embryos, the transfer of which did not lead to pregnancy.

According to Ukrainian law at present, we are unable to provide surrogacy for gay couples and single people.

We take responsibility for the health of the surrogate mother and the successful outcome of the program, so we conduct a strict selection of candidates for the role of the surrogate mother.

Strong physical and mental health is required to carry a pregnancy and give birth to a baby. We require the following from our candidates:

  • Must be a citizen of Ukraine.
  • Age from 18 up to 36 years (optimal age for pregnancy).
  • Woman must have own healthy baby (confirmation that a woman can carry a pregnancy and give birth).
  • Positive Rh factor (we do not take women with a negative Rh factor as the risk of developing an Rh conflict during pregnancy increases)
  • We require a healthy lifestyle from our surrogate mothers without bad habits (alcohol or drug abuse, smoking, etc.)
  • The absence of chronic diseases that can interfere with the normal development of pregnancy and delivery.

We take responsibility for the management of pregnancy and the organization of childbirth, and all paperwork with an attorney and receive the child's birth certificate. The law in Ukraine specifically states that the baby belongs to the Intended Parents and the surrogate mother has no prenatal rights. The birth certificate will be issued in the name of the child’s parents, even if the donor egg has been used during fertilization. We use genetic DNA testing to prove a biological connection with at least one of the parents.

Institute for Planning Family provides all the necessary legal consultation, translation, and support. In our clinic we use the same technics of treatment as in Europe or the USA, include pre-implantation testing of embryos, but our price of surrogacy is much more affordable than in other countries. For some couples it is important to choose the sex of a future baby, it is also legal in Ukraine. The big advantage is that you don't need to worry about paperwork or legal issues, we will do everything for you. Comparing with other countries our laws protect biological parents and you never will have a problem taking your baby. Also, we propose guarantee programs that include three and more attempts of embryo transfer. We help people their dreams come true.
